Vintage glasses make quite a statement, and I think anyone can rock them. Of course, true hipsters won’t wear something that’s gone… ahem… mainstream. For the genuinely hip and ironic, this style of specs may have jumped the shark. In fact, one of the moms on Switched at Birth–a favorite guilty pleasure TV show of mine–rocks a pair of thick black hipster frames in almost every episode:

TV moms: not hipster.

Even Paris Hilton rocked hipster glasses on the cover of Turkish Vogue:

Paris Hilton: not hipster.

On the plus side, I think this is a sign that “hipster glasses” are officially safe to wear by the non-hipsters among us. For extra hipster cred, you can even buy real vintage glasses from the 1960s through 1990s in brand-new condition, complete with non-prescription lenses, from everyone’s favorite hipster superstore, American Apparel!

Sure beats cruising eBay and Etsy for pre-owned vintage glasses of unknown origin, especially if you’re a little mysophobic like me! These authentic vintage frames have never been worn and are sold in very limited quantities. And, if you don’t want to be a total poseur, you can go the extra mile and have prescription lenses put in.

Are you a hipster?  Do you wish you were?
